Children's Mental Health Week 5th - 11th February 2018

To mark Children's Mental Health week we would like to draw schools' attention to the new Heads Together initiative which has been spearheaded by The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry which aims to create a campaign to tackle stigma and change the conversation on mental health. Over time, Heads Together and its youth-focussed charity partners will develop a resource bank of resources for schools to help support children's wellbeing.

Sign up for the Somerset Children and Young People Survey (SCYPS)

During the Spring of 2018 the Somerset Health and Wellbeing in Learning programme will run a third countywide survey of children and young people. Here you can learn about how educational settings can sign up to participate and take part in our quiz about bullying in Somerset based on results from 2016.

Free PSHE CPD Training for Secondary and Middle Schools

Public Health are working with an organisation called LIFEbeat to offer an unique PSHE teacher training programme which promotes a whole school approach to staff and student wellbeing.

Free PSHE Training Day for Primary Schools

Alongside the secondary and middle school offer, Public Health and teaming up with LIFEbeat to run 2 one day PSHE study days for primary phase staff.

Emotion Coaching Phase 4 - Primary Schools

A new programme of Emotion Coaching training dates are now available for SLT, SENCO and classroom teachers in primary schools. This new phase of training will provide staff with techniques and understanding on the key elements of Emotion Coaching including: Dan Siegel's hand-model, John Gottman's 5 steps of Emotion Coaching and how these can support staff self-care and resilience.

Parenting Support - Action Planning Day

Public Health are facilitating a joint working day around supporting parents and carers in Somerset. The aim of the day will be to bring together practitioners and strategic leads from across services to cultivate a consistent process when offering support and information to families. We welcome head teacher involvement at this event.

Digital Romance

A new study provides further insight into young people's use of social media in relationships and was motivated by the desire to evolve online safety education by providing an in-depth insight into young people’s views and experiences.

Tuning into Kids and Tuning into Teens Training Dates 2018

Public Health are facilitating a two-day Tuning into Kids accredited training for staff in Somerset. 

Tuning in to Kids is an evidence-based parenting programme that focuses on the emotional connection between parents and children using Emotion Coaching. EHCAP are also running a two day Tuning into Teens training suitable for secondary phase practitioners.
