The National Child Measurement Programme (NCMP) was first established in 2005 and involves the annual weighing and measuring of all eligible children in Reception Year and in Year 6. Originally the core purpose for NCMP was to provide national level surveillance data on children’s weight status. In 2008 this was extended to include provision of results to those parents wanting it. In Somerset we also use our local data to ensure that we are targeting resources where they are needed and supporting those schools who are keen to address healthy weight issues through the Somerset Health & Wellbeing in Learning Programme www.somersethealthinschools.co.uk.
This brief summary includes an overview of Somerset's last set of results (academic year 2011/12).
