Farm Visits 2018/19

A Few dates are still available for free Guided Farm Visits at Frogmary Green Farm

The Schools' Health Education Den or SHED is now at the end of it's first year, and what a year it has been!

Already, in such a short time, it has become a well-utilised base for school farm visits, teacher training and a venue for targeted groups to use for wellbeing activities linked to growing, cooking and the natural environment.

The classroom's origins stem from a wider Field to Fork project that was developed in partnership with Somerset County Council, the Somerset Play Forum and Sky College to help widen children and young people's learning and understanding of food, farming, play and the outdoors. After 3 successful years the project has seen over 1600 children visit the farm from schools all over Somerset.

Alongside the guided visits for schools, the venue has provided facilities for a series of health and wellbeing days for Young Carers & special schools, a venue for foster carer twilights, the hub for this year's LIFEbeat led PSHE CPD and a venue for over 850 CYP staff on a variety of course and meetings including the sexual health training programme and the Young Parents Programme.

Guided Farm Visits - Universal Offer to Schools

“The day was fantastic with such a great variety. I particularly loved the activity linked to the story of The Colour Thief!”

Dates for academic year 2018/2019 have now been published for Guided Farm Visits for schools. Interested schools who would like to bring children and young people to the farm can book here: Bookings

Targeted Groups

The SHED will continue to be a resource for Somerset staff that work with children and families. Staff that have undergone a full induction training will be able to book single or multiple visits, up to three a term, to use the hub independently with small groups of children and young people. Specific organisations and services will be invited to attend the induction training sessions during the autumn term. For further details go to: Who can book the SHED?

An exciting programme of training has now in place for the new academic year that will link directly to the new Somerset Wellbeing Framework. This is available for schools and the wider CYP workforce using both the SHED and the Frogmary Green Farm conference space and will include: Developing Leadership and Management to support wellbeing in school, the LIFEbeat PSHE CPD, Emotion Coaching, Tuning in Kids, Mental Health First Aid and Healthy Lifestyles modules on food, physical activity and sleep.
