The following lesson plans maybe used as a stand alone topic based resource or can be used alongside, in support of the RSHE curriculum with specific reference to teaching Physical Health and Mental Wellbeing: Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco. Relationships Education, Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education guidance
Prior to teaching, provisions should be in place to provide safety and boundaries for learners and teaching staff. We have outlined some initial guidance below.
Creating a safe learning environment
A supportive and secure learning environment is essential when teaching PSHE, enabling children and young people to grow and develop with confidence. Through PSHE, we should aim to equip them with the knowledge and skills to enhance their health and wellbeing - Both now and in the future. To explore personal challenges and build life skills effectively, it is vital that this learning takes place in a space where participants feel safe, respected, and encouraged to share their thoughts and values openly.
The lessons plans we have developed address real-life issues that are deeply relevant to children and young people, supporting their personal and social development beyond the classroom.
To navigate these discussions in a healthy and constructive way, it is essential that they take place within a safe and supportive learning environment. It should provide valuable opportunities for children and young people to ask questions and engage in meaningful conversations with trusted adults and peers (as appropriate) about the topics that matter to them.
Why a Safe Environment Matters
A safe learning environment is crucial for PSHE education. It allows students to feel secure, respected and open to sharing their thoughts and experiences. This foundation is essential for effective learning, personal growth and safeguarding of all learners and staff.
