Attachment and relationships
Attachment is described as an emotional bond between a primary caregiver and an infant.

Developmental Trauma: Impact upon children and young people
Developmental trauma is a term used to describe the impact of early, repeated trauma and loss which typically happens within the child’s important relationships.
It can occur as a result of multiple or chronic exposure to one or more forms of developmentally adverse interpersonal trauma, such as neglect or domestic abuse. The term is also used interchangeably with others such as complex childhood or relational trauma.

Restorative approaches as part of relational practice
What are restorative approaches (RA)?
- Focus on behaviours and interactions aimed to build positive relationships, resolve conflict, and repair harm following conflict.
- Supports children to understand how feelings impact behaviour and how behaviour impacts others.
- Acknowledges all behaviour is communication and adopts “no-blame” ethos.
- Instead of investigating incidents to attribute sanctions, greater focus on exploring feelings of all parties to gain understanding and repair relationships.
- Aims to help children feel accepted and reduce feelings of shame and rejection.
